Authorities said Eugenio Lopez Alvarez fell shortly after 1 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon while at work at the apartment complex. He was taken to the Greenville Memorial Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead; the county coroner's office later said Alvarez died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
Another construction worker, 44-year-old Ascencion Molina Medina, died after falling from a Greenville apartment building in 2015, a fatality that was later investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
OSHA says falls are one of the most common causes of work related injuries and deaths. The agency has established a website describing a variety of steps employers and workers can take to reduce the risk of a fall, and has made fall prevention a central safety theme.
