Hailstones are not exactly uncommon in Texas, but hail the size of grapefruit? That's the word from Wylie, Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where a mid-April storm dropped hail big enough to punch holes in the roofs of some houses. One woman, whose kitchen ceiling collapsed under the weight of accumulating hail, felt lucky to find a roofing contractor who could make repairs, but some of her neighbors weren't as fortunate. Roofer Curtis Keown said his phone was ringing off the hook in the wake of the storm, with desperate callers reporting roofs damaged and open to the weather. Roofers from outside Texas were flooding into the area, but getting supplies was proving a challenge. "I'd have to say somewhere close to grapefruit size," he said. "This is the biggest hail I think I've ever seen -- by far."
